You would probably feel differently if you had loved ones over there. When that is the case, you can't hear enough about it.

You know, if you don't want to see people talking about Iraq, starting a thread on the topic is maybe not the best move.

[I've fixed the spelling in the thread title, BTW.]

That's... rather insensitive. Especially saying that right after someone posted that they had a loved-one stationed there. Also, there was absolutely no connection between Iraq and the people that committed 9-11, unless your logic goes something along the lines of:

Iraq has terrorists.
Terrorists committed 9-11.
Therefore, Iraq committed 9-11.

In which case you would also have to include almost every nation in the world in your argument, including the United States.

I didn't really think of it that way.. I don't fit that scenario.

My uncles wife is about to be shipped off to iraq, I mentioned to him that I spoke with a recruiter once and he ripped me a new one for a good hour or so. He said he'd finance anything I needed before he lets me get enlisted. Talk about someone who really hates iraq.

I also got into an argument with said recruiter about iraq....for 20 friggin minutes! How you gonna recruit someone then argue and fight with them????

He says "you'd fit well in active duty"
I said "LOL, in iraq?"

I told him to call me back when they figure out who they should be fighting.....iraqis sure don't seem like top of the list material to me. WMD what now?

I seriously discourage this discussion from advancing any further. There are 3 things that should be never discussed with forums (or family).. which this is a form of. Politics. Religion. Relationships.

These three will inevitably lead to flaming. I'm posting to you too Fawgre. While I disagree with both of your statements I am not making a rebuttal for I do not want to turn our relationships in that direction.

As the moderator who's "beat" is The Outer Circle, I don't discourage discussion of any reasonable topic in the Off-Topic forum, as long as you don't resort to flaming. Politics, in particular, is a matter of community -- it's meant to be discussed, particularly in a democracy. No reasonable person should enter a voting both without having talked to people about it, IMHO. One should never deny oneself the opportunity to hear the other guy's point of view. Just keep it civil, folks.

EDIT: OTOH, if you do wish to have a civil discussion, it's probably best to do it in a thread started with a thoughtful message rather than with a bit a flamebait. Threads like that will be closed, even if the topic is acceptable, because that method is not.

That is all I have to say...There is a price and it is a hell of a lot more than your whining gas/oil prices.
